Tires do not wear at the same rate on all four corners of a vehicle. The front tires handle most of the steering and braking, while the driven wheels also transfer engine power to the road. Over thousands of miles, those differences can leave one pair noticeably more worn than the other.

How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Many drivers find it convenient to rotate the tires around the same time as an oil change when the two schedules line up. That makes the service easier to remember without rotating the tires more frequently than needed.

Some vehicles also use staggered tires, meaning the rear tires are wider than the fronts. Those tires cannot simply trade places front to rear.

Do Not Wait Until the Tires Look Obviously Uneven
